Garland local authorities are searching for a suspect who opened fire at the police during a chase early Monday morning

Garland, TX – Garland Police Department is asking the public for help in identifying and locating the suspect who opened fire at police during a chase in the early morning hours on Monday.

According to the police report, the incident happened around 3 a.m. on Monday when officers tried to pull over a white 2017 Chrysler 300 on Northwest Highway.

The police said they tried to stop the vehicle because the owner of the car is wanted for sex crimes that reportedly took place in Lubbock.

Instead of stopping, the driver of the vehicle sped away leading the officers on a chase.

Shortly after, the driver jumped out of the vehicle right after he hit a stop sign near Northwest Highway and Sleepy Hollow Drive. He started running and the officers went after him.

However, at one point of the chase, the suspect fired several shots at the officers who were chasing the suspect and they had to take cover. The suspect fled in unknown direction and the officer were unable to catch him.

No injuries were reported.

The incident is under investigation. Once more details are available, we will update the case.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect wanted by the police is asked to call 911 or the Garland Police Department.
